Northeast Agricultural University

Northeast Agricultural University is a national "Double First-Class" university that excels in agricultural sciences, features life sciences and food sciences, and promotes coordinated development of multiple disciplines including agriculture, engineering, science, economics and management. Founded in Harbin in 1948 as Northeast Agricultural College, it was the first ordinary higher agricultural institution established by the Communist Party of China. Liu Da, a renowned educator and the first mayor of Harbin, was the first president of the university. Since its establishment, it has been affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Northeast Administrative Committee, the Ministry of Higher Education of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China, the Agricultural Commission of Heilongjiang Province, and the Department of Education of Heilongjiang Province. In 1981, it was designated as a provincial key university of Heilongjiang Province. In 1994, it merged with Heilongjiang Agricultural Management Cadre College to form Northeast Agricultural University. In 1996, it was included in the list of key universities under the "211 Project". In 2004, it was recognized as an excellent institution in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education. In 2011, it became a provincial-ministerial co-construction university of the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In 2013, it was selected as a university under the "Basic Capacity Building Project for Higher Education Institutions in Central and Western China". In 2017, it was selected as a university for the construction of world-class disciplines, and in 2022, it was selected as a university for the second round of the "Double First-Class" initiative.

The university has 17 colleges and 1 teaching division. It has 1 National First-Class discipline, 3 national key disciplines, 3 National key (cultivated) disciplines, 2 key disciplines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 12 advantageous and characteristic disciplines of Heilongjiang Province, 1 ESI global top 1‰ discipline field, and 8 ESI global top 1% discipline fields. The university is one of the first institutions of higher learning in China to be authorized to confer doctoral and master's degrees. It has 12 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees and 21 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees. Three categories of doctoral professional degrees and 18 categories of master's professional degrees; 10 postdoctoral research stations and 2 postdoctoral research workstations; 75 undergraduate programs, 10 national characteristic programs, 24 national first-class undergraduate programs, 43 provincial first-class undergraduate programs, 1 program selected as a national comprehensive reform pilot program, and 4 programs accredited by engineering education.

The school has 1,583 full-time teachers, including 352 professors, 581 associate professors, 1,116 with doctoral degrees and 400 with master's degrees. There are 116 national-level talents, 262 provincial-level talents, 2 innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, 4 outstanding agricultural research talents and their innovation teams of the second batch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 2 national-level teaching teams, 3 Huang Danyan-style teacher teams of national universities, 5 leading teams of Heilongjiang Province, and 354 doctoral supervisors.
