Wuhan Physical Education Institute

Wuhan Institute of Physical Education, formerly known as Central South Institute of Physical Education, was one of the first independent full-time regular higher physical education institutions established after the founding of the People 's Republic of China. It was founded in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province in 1953, moved to Wuhan, Hubei Province in 1955, and was renamed Wuhan Institute of Physical Education in 1956. It is a directly affiliated institution of the General Administration of Sport of China. In 2001, it was reorganized to be jointly built by the General Administration of Sport of China and the People's Government of Hubei Province. The school covers an area of 1,820 mu and has more than 15,000 undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and international students. It has a directly affiliated hospital of a tertiary hospital and an affiliated hospital of a tertiary hospital. The school adheres to the motto of "Public, Brave, Sincere, Resolute, Learning, Thinking, Reasoning, Acting" and the educational philosophy of "integrating sports, science and technology, and humanistic education, and combining morality, culture and professional quality". Over the past 70-plus years of running the school, it has cultivated and sent more than 160,000 outstanding talents.

Strong research capabilities. There are currently 12 provincial and ministerial-level research platforms. In the past five years, it has undertaken 57 national-level research projects and 294 provincial and ministerial-level research projects. It is the first sports college to be approved for the National Natural Science Foundation of China's National Major Research Instrument Development Project. It has successively undertaken 12 major and key projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, received more than 30 national and provincial and ministerial-level research awards, and has been approved for one national sports science popularization base. One high-level think tank of the General Administration of Sport of China. Journal of Wuhan Institute of Physical Education is a journal funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China, selected in the Ministry of Education's Famous column, and included in the Four Core Journal Arrays; Journal of Physical Education is an outstanding journal of Hubei Province; Advanced Exercise and Health Science, which was launched in March 2024, has been indexed in databases such as EBSCO, CAS and DOAJ.

The faculty is strong. Sixty percent of the teachers and coaches have senior professional titles, forming a team of top-notch national-level talents, high-end aggregation of provincial and ministerial-level talents, and outstanding young and middle-aged teachers.

Competitive sports are distinctive. A total of 226 gold MEDALS in the world's top three competitions (including 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze at the Paris Olympics); 112 gold MEDALS at Asian Games (27 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze at Hangzhou Asian Games); 127 gold MEDALS at the National Games (22 gold, 15 silver and 19 bronze at the Shaanxi National Games). The school was awarded the "Contribution Award for Sports" by the General Administration of Sport of China and was approved as a "National Key High-level Sports Reserve Talent Base" by the General Administration of Sport of China.

It adheres to an open educational approach. It has established the Chinese Triathlon Academy, the Chinese Water Sports Academy, the Chinese Boxing Academy, the Chinese Bodybuilding and Fitness Academy, the Chinese Dragon and Lion Dance Academy, the Asian Gymnastics Training Center and the International Gymnastics Academy, which is authorized by the International Gymnastics Federation.
