Ocean University of China

OCEAN UNIVERSITY OF CHINA, abbreviated as OUC, is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education with a complete range of disciplines and distinctive features in Marine and aquatic sciences. It is a key university under the "Project 211", "Project 985" and "Double First-Class" initiative.

Founded in 1924, the university has gone through several periods including private Qingdao University, National Qingdao University, National Shandong University and Shandong University. It was renamed Shandong Ocean College in 1959, Qingdao Ocean University in 1988 and Ocean University of China in 2002.

The university has four campuses, including Laoshan Campus, Yushan Campus and Fushan Campus, which cover more than 2,400 mu. The West Coast campus is planned to cover about 2,800 mu, and the first phase will be completed and put into use in 2022. It now has one faculty, 20 colleges and one basic teaching center. There are more than 36,500 students enrolled, including 17,720 undergraduates, 14,730 postgraduates and 3,790 doctoral students. The total number of international students enrolled throughout the year is nearly 1,000. There are more than 4,220 faculty members, including 11 academicians residing in Shandong, more than 170 national-level talents, and more than 730 provincial and ministerial-level talents.

The university has established a comprehensive marine-related discipline system with distinct Chinese characteristics, achieving cross-integration, mutual support, distinctive features and coordinated development of disciplines such as Marine science and technology, life science and technology, engineering technology, humanities and social sciences, and basic disciplines.

The school aims to become a world-class comprehensive Marine university by 2030; By the middle of this century, it will become a world-class university with distinctive features.
