Yanbian University

Yanbian University, founded in 1949, is one of the earliest universities established by the Communist Party of China in a minority area. It is located in Yanji City, the capital of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province, which is known as the "hometown of education", and opened a new campus in Hunchun City in 2017. In its rich practices of strengthening the border through education, invigorating the border with talents, strengthening the border with science and technology, enriching the border with industries, defending the border with academia, and nurturing the border with culture, the university has been cultivating talents for the Party and the country. It is a university included in the National "Double First-Class" initiative, a key university under the National "211 Project", a key university for the development of the western region, a university jointly supported by the Jilin Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education, and a university jointly supported by the Jilin Provincial Government and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.

The school covers an area of 1.2935 million square meters and has a building area of 800,000 square meters. The school library has 2.01 million volumes of paper books and 2.031 million volumes of electronic books. The school now has 17 colleges and 74 undergraduate programs; There are 11 disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 29 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 26 categories authorized for master's professional degrees, and 5 independent interdisciplinary programs. There are 5 postdoctoral research stations, 1 postdoctoral research workstation, and 7 graduate workstations in Jilin Province. In 2017 and 2022, the discipline of Foreign languages and Literatures was successively included in the national "Double First-Class" construction discipline. In April 2025, the university was selected as a pilot institution for interdisciplinary studies of the Chinese nation community. The university also has one national key discipline, 14 characteristic high-level disciplines of Jilin Province, five characteristic high-level disciplines (clusters) of Jilin Province, one discipline under the "World-Class Discipline Cultivation Program" of Jilin Province, three key disciplines of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, two key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and three disciplines ranked in the top 1% of ESI.

The school currently has 30,827 students (including 7,272 doctoral and master's students, 22,670 undergraduate students, 408 junior college students, 274 preparatory students for ethnic minorities, and 203 international students from 22 countries). It has 70 provincial and ministerial-level research institutions, including the Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education - Korea Research Center, the Key Laboratory of Changbai Mountain Natural Medicine Research of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of Northeast Cold Region Beef Science and Technology Innovation of the Ministry of Education, and the Key Laboratory of Yanbian Characteristic High-Quality Beef Deep Processing Innovation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In the past three years, the university has undertaken more than 598 major and key projects and fund projects at all levels, including national and provincial ones, and published more than 3,730 academic papers.

The school has steadily developed its international student education and received the Ministry of Education's "Chinese Government Scholarship for International Students".
