Hohai University

Hohai University is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education with a century-old history. It is characterized by water conservancy, with engineering as its main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is a key university under the "211 Project", a national advantageous discipline innovation platform, a first-class discipline, and has a graduate school. Over the past century, the university has grown and developed in its efforts to manage water and build the country, and is known as "the cradle of high-level innovative and entrepreneurial talents in water conservancy and an important base for scientific and technological innovation in water conservancy". The university has its Xikang Road Campus, Jiangning Campus and Changzhou Campus in Nanjing and Changzhou, covering an area of 2,579 mu. As of the end of September 2017, there were 51,419 students of all kinds of academic education, including 16,493 postgraduates, 19,870 regular undergraduates, 13,874 adult education students and 1,182 international students.

Hohai University is one of the first institutions authorized by the state to confer bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. In the discipline evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education in 2012, the university's discipline of water conservancy engineering ranked first. The disciplines of "Engineering", "Environment/Ecology" and "Computer Science" entered the top 1% of the ESI world ranking. It has one first-level national key discipline (water conservancy Engineering), seven second-level national key disciplines, two second-level national key discipline cultivation points, 15 first-level provincial key disciplines, and 73 second-level provincial key disciplines; 15 postdoctoral research stations; 12 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 66 second-level discipline doctoral programs; 35 first-level discipline master's programs, 198 second-level discipline master's programs; 11 master's professional degree categories, among which the Master of Engineering professional degree covers 19 engineering fields; 54 undergraduate programs.

Hohai University leverages its multi-disciplinary strengths, focuses on key technical issues of major national projects, strengthens research characteristics and enhances integrated innovation capabilities, promotes collaborative innovation, and serves national economic construction and social development. The university has the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology, Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering Science and the National Engineering Research Center for Efficient Utilization of Water Resources and Engineering Safety, six national and provincial-level key laboratories, 13 national and provincial-level engineering research centers, and five disciplinary innovation and intelligence bases of higher education institutions. Closely integrated with major projects such as the Three Gorges Project, the Yellow River Xiaolangdi Project, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and the Western Hydropower Development Project, it has undertaken a large number of key and major research programs and key and major engineering research projects at the national level. Since 2000, 40 national science and technology awards and 676 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards have been won. In response to the strategic demands of national water security and regional economic and social development, the university has actively cultivated the National Collaborative Innovation Center for Water Security and Water Science and initiated the construction of four collaborative innovation centers of Jiangsu Province universities.

Hohai University implements an international development strategy and conducts extensive international exchanges and cooperation. As one of the first universities authorized by the state to confer doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees to foreign students, Hohai University has trained over a thousand doctoral, master's and bachelor's students for more than 100 countries and regions, and has established inter-university (institute) cooperation relations with 57 universities and research institutions in 20 countries (regions). The university actively integrates into the national Belt and Road Initiative, expands overseas study sites, and promotes the localization of talent cultivation; Serve the internationalization strategy of enterprises, strengthen customized talent cultivation, and provide technological support and talent support for countries along the Belt and Road and China's overseas engineering enterprises.
