Nanjing University

Founded in 1902, Nanjing University is a century-old prestigious institution with a great reputation both at home and abroad. Nanjing University currently has three campuses in Xianlin, Gulou and Pukou, 29 affiliated colleges and departments, and a total of 33,145 students of all kinds, including 13,244 undergraduates, 16,832 postgraduates and 3,378 international students. Nanjing University is one of the first batch of key universities under the "211 Project" and "985 Project", and is a member of the C9 alliance. It has a high-level faculty that excels in the fields of humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, medicine and engineering.

Nanjing University has won more than 800 national and provincial-level research awards. In recent years, it has undertaken dozens of core research projects, and the quality and quantity of SCI papers it has published are among the best in China. Since 1992, the number of SCI papers published by Nanjing University has been the highest among Chinese universities for seven consecutive years, and the citation rate of its SCI papers has been the highest among Chinese universities for eight consecutive years.

Nanjing University has a considerable number of national-level research and innovation bases, including 7 international key laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research center, 1 national and local joint engineering research center, 1 national genetic engineering mouse resource bank, 8 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, and 2 national 2011 collaborative innovation centers.

Nanjing University has 16 disciplines ranked in the top 1% globally in ESI data, placing it among the top comprehensive universities in China. In the QS2016-2017 World University Rankings and Asia University Rankings, Nanjing University ranked 115th globally and 23rd in Asia. In 2017, the university ranked 12th among global universities and 2nd among domestic universities in the Nature Index.

For more than a century, Nanjing University has been committed to the principle of putting people first and has cultivated and produced many Chinese talents at various historical stages, who have achieved remarkable success in their respective fields. Many famous scientists, technologists and scholars have studied and worked here. The school has a highly qualified faculty of more than 4,000 people, including 28 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 academicians of the Third World Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and 1 academician of the Royal Society of Canada. There are 122 distinguished and visiting professors under the Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education, 113 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 30 innovative talents under the Thousand Talents Program, and 113 Young talents under the Thousand Talents Program.

Since its establishment in the early 20th century, Nanjing University has been one of the most active Chinese universities in international exchanges and cooperation, and has established close cooperative relations with many of the world's top universities and high-level research institutions. Among them, the Nanjing University-Johns Hopkins Center for Sino-US Cultural Studies, which was established in the 1980s, has been successfully running for 30 years. It was one of the earliest long-term international cooperation projects in higher education implemented after China's reform and opening up. It has cultivated many key talents for Sino-US cultural exchanges and has had a huge impact at home and abroad. At present, under the new historical circumstances, Nanjing University is vigorously promoting international exchanges and cooperation in various fields and through multiple channels, and comprehensively enhancing the internationalization level of its education.
