About the university

Nanjing Normal University is a national "Double First-Class" university and a high-level university in Jiangsu Province. The main origin of the university can be traced back to Sanjiang Normal School, which was founded in 1902 and is one of the birthplaces of higher normal education in China.

For more than a hundred years, Nanjing Normal University has produced many masters. With the motto of "Upholding Virtue and Caring for Life, Diligent Study and Prompt Action", it has cultivated a "people-oriented" tradition of caring for life and formed a fine school spirit of "rigor, simplicity, vigor and dedication". Nanjing Normal University has three campuses: Xianlin, Suiyuan and Zijin. The Suiyuan campus is known as "the most beautiful campus in the East". The university has 28 secondary colleges and 2 independent colleges. The school has a total of 3,277 staff members, including 2,191 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 697 have senior professional titles and 773 have associate senior professional titles. The university offers 80 undergraduate programs, 95 master's programs and 68 doctoral programs, covering philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and art.

Nanjing Normal University has always attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with overseas countries and has adhered to an international development strategy. The university was among the first batch of open universities in China after the reform and opening up. It is also a national demonstration base for international students, a base for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, one of the first bases for Chinese language education and a training base for early childhood education in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It has international research and teaching organizations such as the UNESCO Chair on Engineering and Technical Education for Youth and Children, the Nanjing Base of the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education, the French Cultural Research Centre and the Nanjing French Language Training Centre, and the Italian Cultural Research Centre. Six Confucius Institutes and one Confucius Classroom have been established overseas. It has 21 Sino-foreign cooperative education and joint training programs with universities in the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries, and 155 overseas study programs for students. We have established intercollegiate exchange relations with 242 universities in 43 countries and regions around the world. In recent years, we have hired more than 400 foreign experts, including more than 80 long-term foreign experts. More than a thousand international students are enrolled each year. In 2025, there will be more than 1,000 international students from over 100 countries and regions studying on campus.

At present, Nanjing Normal University is striving to build itself into a "first-class university with distinctive features and international influence".
