Nantong University, located in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, a coastal open city known as "China 's First modern city", is a comprehensive university jointly built by the Jiangsu provincial government and the Ministry of Transport. The school's history can be traced back to the private Nantong Medical School and Nantong Textile School founded by the renowned industrialist and educator Mr. Zhang Jian in 1912. In 2004, the former Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology and Nantong Normal College were merged to form the new Nantong University.
The university now has four campuses, with a total area of 3,700 mu, 25 colleges and a large comprehensive tertiary grade-A affiliated hospital. It offers 100 undergraduate programs, 17 master's programs and three doctoral programs, covering 10 disciplines including literature, science, engineering, medicine, art, economics, law, education, history and management.
The school has a strong faculty, with over 3,000 staff members and 35,000 full-time students, including 33,000 undergraduates, over 2,000 postgraduates and over 700 international students. The school has extensive overseas exchanges and cooperation. It has established friendly cooperative relations with 82 universities and research institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Ukraine, Australia, Argentina, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, as well as in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China, and has launched many international exchange programs.
Nantong University began its large-scale international student education program in 2005. Currently, there are nearly 700 international students from nearly 32 countries, including the United States, Japan, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Namibia, Botswana, South Korea, Australia, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
All programs at Nantong University are open to international students. Currently, international students are pursuing bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in clinical medicine, Chinese language and literature, international economics and trade, computer science, electronic information, electrical engineering and physical education. In addition to being taught in Chinese, some programs can also be taught in English, such as Undergraduate Clinical Medicine and International Economics and Trade. In addition to degree students, we also accept short-term non-degree students, including visiting students, exchange students, language students and short-term cultural experience students. Outstanding international students can participate in our Chinese Government Scholarship Program, Jiangsu Provincial Government Scholarship Program and Nantong University Scholarship Program.
