The main campus has 4,240 staff members, including three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are two members of the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council, two national-level teaching teams and four pilot virtual teaching and research rooms. In recent years, the school has produced advanced collectives such as "National Advanced Collective in the Education System" - National Engineering Research Center for Silicon-based LED, "National Workers' Pioneer Post" - Engineering Mechanics Experiment Center, and "National Huang Danyan-style Teacher Team in Higher Education Institutions" - Food Science and Engineering Teacher Team. Three have been awarded the title of "National Outstanding Communist Party Member", two have been awarded the title of "National Advanced Individual in the Fight against COVID-19", one has received the highest honor in the international nursing field, the "Nightingale Medal", one has been awarded the title of "National Model Teacher", and one has been awarded the title of "National Model of Bravery". A number of advanced examples of dedication to work and moral education have emerged, such as Jiang Fengyi, Xie Mingyong, Zhang Wei, Zhu Xingen, Zou Defeng and Hong Yijiang. Wang Yu, a model teacher of Jiangxi Province, and Shi Qiujie, a mother of doctoral supervisors, have interpreted the "Four Loves" spirit of Nanchang University teachers with their lives: love for the Party and the country, love for the job, love for the school as home, and love for students as children.
There are more than 36,200 full-time undergraduate students at the main campus, including 994 international students. There are more than 18,100 full-time postgraduate students of all kinds, including 78 international students. The school actively promotes the reform of the talent cultivation model, forming a model of cultivating top-notch talents characterized by "three systems, three transformations, three integrations", a model of cultivating applied talents represented by cultivating outstanding talents, and a model of cultivating compound talents characterized by the integration of multiple disciplines. Four national model courses for ideological and political education in courses, four national teaching masters and teams for ideological and political education in courses, and one special prize for teaching demonstration of ideological and political theory courses in colleges and universities across the country. One national excellent textbook and one National Advanced Individual in Textbook Construction were selected for the first National Textbook Construction Award. Awarded the title of "National Civilized Campus". Eight projects were recognized by the Ministry of Education for the comprehensive reform and quality improvement Project of Ideological and Political Work in colleges and universities, including five "Quality Projects of Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities", one "Outstanding Teacher Studio of College Counselors", one "Research Library of Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities", and one "List of National Model 'one-stop' Student Communities in Colleges and Universities". Three works were selected for the Ministry of Education's "Respect for Fine Traditional Chinese Culture" program in colleges and universities. One was awarded the title of "National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization", two were awarded the title of "National Model Department for Party Building Work", six were awarded the title of "National Model Party Branch for Party Building Work", and one was awarded the title of "National Dual Leader" in Higher education institutions. Four special teams for teachers' Party branch secretaries, two of the 100 model Party branches for postgraduates in national universities, three of the 100 model Party Members for postgraduates in national universities, and one studio for teachers' Party branch secretaries of the "Double Leader" in national universities. One was awarded the title of "Most Beautiful College Counselor" in the country. Since its establishment, the school has cultivated over 590,000 outstanding full-time and over 430,000 outstanding part-time education talents, making significant contributions to the economic and social development of the country and the region.
Centering on the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing talent, the school has firmly established the central position of talent cultivation, the fundamental position of education and teaching, and the priority position of undergraduate teaching. In line with the Ministry of Education's "Double Ten Thousand" program, 59 national first-class undergraduate major construction points have been approved; 77 courses were selected as national First-Class courses. It has won eight second prizes of national teaching achievement awards for three consecutive sessions. Five new engineering research and practice projects, three new agricultural research and reform practice projects, and five new liberal arts research and reform practice projects were approved by the Ministry of Education. The university is one of the first batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, the main node unit of China Education and Research Network (CERNET) in Jiangxi Province, and the only university in Jiangxi participating in the construction of China Next Generation Internet Demonstration Project (CNGI). It ranked first in the 2019-2023 National Undergraduate College Students' Competition Ranking, and 14th in both the 2019-2023 National Undergraduate College Students' Competition Ranking and the National 'Double First-Class' Construction University Students' Competition Ranking. The China International Internet Plus College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (renamed the China International College Students' Innovation Competition in 2023) has won a total of 32 gold awards over the years. One graduate student won the 2022 World Athletics Championships, won the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and broke the event record, and won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and tied China's best performance in the event at the Olympics.
