Guangxi Medical University is rooted in Nanning, a vibrant city in southwest China. Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is a core city for deepening cooperation between China and ASEAN and an important regional hub along the Belt and Road Initiative. It is a city with abundant sunshine and rain, long summers and warm winters. It is a pleasant place to live and study, and provides a unique geographical advantage for the university to carry out international medical exchanges and cooperation.
Founded in 1934, it is one of the first eight medical colleges in China to recruit international students and was among the first to be approved by the Ministry of Education to offer undergraduate clinical medicine (taught in English), with rich experience in international education. In 2025, it ranked 17th among medical universities in China by Shanghairanking Consultancy. It has been included in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 1000 for three consecutive years, and its comprehensive educational strength remains among the top of its kind in China.
The university has 19 secondary colleges and builds a complete discipline system covering seven major disciplines including medicine, science and engineering. It offers 31 undergraduate programs, seven of which have been selected as national first-class undergraduate programs. Core programs such as clinical medicine, nursing, stomatology and pharmacy have all been certified by the Ministry of Education, and the teaching quality is in line with international standards. The university has four campuses (including the under-construction Wuxiang campus), covering a total area of about 3,300 mu. It has five directly affiliated hospitals, ten non-directly affiliated hospitals and 198 practical teaching bases. Among them, the Clinical Skills Training Center is the largest clinical medical practice platform in Guangxi, and it is also a national college students' practical education base and a national clinical teaching and training demonstration center. The five directly affiliated tertiary grade A hospitals (with 7,483 beds) can provide the full chain of "theory-practice" training support for international students.
The faculty and research force are strong. Among the current 2,400 full-time teachers of the school, there are 3 academicians, more than 1,800 master's supervisors and more than 400 doctoral supervisors. Seven disciplines, including clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, immunology, general social sciences, and materials science, have entered the top 1% of ESI globally (clinical medicine ranks among the top 1.38‰). Four national-level research platforms, nine ministerial-level research platforms and 66 provincial-level scientific platforms have been established. It leads the world in areas such as thalassemia prevention and treatment and tumor-targeted therapy.
With the motto of "Virtue and Aspiration, Learning and Medicine", Guangxi Medical University has been working hard for nearly a hundred years. It has not only become a core hub for medical education, research, clinical treatment and preventive health care in Guangxi, but also gained global recognition with its outstanding strength - it has sent more than 200,000 high-quality medical talents to China and around the world, and its alumni are spread across the global medical and health field. It has formed a wide international influence.
With its well-developed teaching facilities, strong faculty and research capabilities, and complete educational system, the school's educational quality has been officially certified by the Ministry of Education of China, and its international medical education has won high recognition in many countries and regions around the world, becoming the trusted choice for overseas students to pursue their medical dreams.
