Huaqiao University

Huaqiao University is a university directly under the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council). The university is a national Chinese language education base, a national college students' cultural quality education base, a national language promotion base, a national characteristic service export base in the field of language services, a national model university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, a national model university for teacher assessment and evaluation reform, and a national base for inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture in universities.

The school was founded in Quanzhou, Fujian Province in 1960 with the approval of the state, and its first president was Liao Chengzhi. It was closed in 1970 and reopened in 1978. In 1983, it was designated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as a key university supported by the state. It was jointly built by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the People's Government of Fujian Province in 1996. The Xiamen campus was opened in 2006. Selected as a "Double First-Class" university in Fujian Province in 2018. In 2019, it was jointly built by the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Fujian Province.

The school established its board of directors in 1980, with Zhuang Xiquan, Hu Ping, Huang Changxi, Jia Qinglin, Chen Mingyi, Song Defu, Wang Gang and CAI Dafeng serving as chairmen successively. The current chairman is Jiang Zuojun, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party.

The school has campuses in Quanzhou and Xiamen, and now has 27 colleges. 11 disciplines, 11 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 28 first-level discipline master's programs, 26 professional master's programs, 5 postdoctoral research stations; 41 national and provincial key disciplines, 3 first-class disciplines of Fujian Province; Four disciplines - engineering, chemistry, materials science and computer science - are in the top 5‰ of the ESI world ranking, and two disciplines - environment/Ecology and social sciences - are in the top 1 percent. There are 68 undergraduate programs, of which 35 are national first-class undergraduate programs, 17 are provincial first-class undergraduate programs, and 23 have passed international and domestic professional accreditation.

There are 28,621 full-time undergraduate students, 7,926 postgraduate students, and 9,045 students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, overseas Chinese and foreign students. There are 2,949 faculty members. Of the 1,741 full-time teachers, 58% have senior professional titles, 73% have doctoral degrees, and 64% are young or middle-aged teachers under the age of 45. The school has one team of academicians, 105 people have been selected as national high-level talents, 721 have been selected as provincial high-level talents, and many teams have received honors such as "Advanced Collective of the National Education System", "Huang Danyan-style Teacher Team of National Universities" of the Ministry of Education, and "Innovation Team in Key Areas of the Innovation Talent Promotion Program" of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The university has more than 100 provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research platforms, including national key laboratories (co-built), national and local joint engineering research centers, national 111 Program discipline innovation and intelligence introduction bases, provincial and ministerial co-built collaborative innovation centers, Ministry of Education engineering research centers, virtual teaching and research rooms, virtual simulation experiment centers, experimental teaching demonstration centers, etc. He has won three second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and two first prizes of the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Research Achievements in Higher Education Institutions. Many of his academic achievements have been published in top domestic and international journals such as Nature and Social Sciences in China. The university has been committed to serving the economic and social development of the country and the region. It has carried out the "Thousand Enterprises and Thousand Villages Tour" and implemented the "Science and Education for the Province Huada Action".

The university adheres to the educational policy of "facing overseas, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan", and has cultivated over 280,000 talents of all kinds, among whom more than 80,000 are distributed in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas, becoming envoys promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries. Adhering to the educational mission of "serving overseas Chinese and spreading Chinese culture", we actively carry out people-to-people diplomacy, people-to-people publicity and people-to-people Chinese language education. We have cooperated with more than 570 Chinese schools around the world and have held 19 consecutive Chinese language learning classes for foreign government officials. The total views of the original short videos created by the teacher-student team at home and abroad have exceeded 220 million, innovatively telling the Chinese story. It has established institutions such as the Institute of Overseas Chinese and Regional Studies, the Institute of Chinese Culture and World Civilization, and the Taiwan Research Center to promote theoretical and think tank research. The university has signed cooperation agreements with more than 300 universities, research institutions and government departments in 53 countries and regions, and has 156 offices or recruitment agencies worldwide.
