South China University of Technology

South China University of Technology is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a key university designated by the Ministry of Education of China to receive international students on Chinese government scholarships. It is the first national "Civilized Campus". The university operates in three campuses: Wushan Campus in Shipai, Tianhe, University Town Campus in University Town, Panyu District, and the under-construction Guangzhou International Campus in Innovation City, Panyu District. The three campuses complement each other, making it an ideal place for students to study.

The school has a long history, dating back to the establishment of the First industrial School of Guangdong Province in 1918. Formally established in 1952 during the period of the national adjustment of higher education institutions, it brought together the elites of science and engineering in South China and Central South, and was one of the four major engineering colleges in New China, and could be regarded as a pioneer of higher engineering education in China. In 1960, the school was recognized as an advanced unit on the national cultural and educational front and became a national key university in the same year; In 1981, it was approved by The State Council as one of the first institutions to confer doctoral and master's degrees; In 1993, it was the first among all universities to be jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the provincial government. In 1995, it was included in the list of national key universities for the 21st century (Project 211); In 2001, it was included in the National Program for Building world-class universities (Project 985); In 2016, it entered the top 300 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, and rose to 22nd place globally in the field of engineering. In 2017, it ranked 235th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and was included in the national "Double First-Class" initiative as A Class A university. The university is now firmly among China's top universities and the world's renowned ones.

After 65 years of construction and development, South China University of Technology has become a comprehensive research university that excels in engineering, combines science, engineering and medicine, and promotes the coordinated development of management, economics, literature and law. The university now has 28 colleges, 82 undergraduate programs, 118 master's programs and 107 doctoral programs. The school has strong academic strength, with Light industry Science and engineering, food science and Engineering, Urban and Rural planning, materials science and Engineering, architecture, chemical engineering and technology, and landscape architecture all ranking among the top 10 in the country. Nine disciplines, including engineering, materials science, chemistry, agricultural science, physics, biology and biochemistry, computer science, environmental science and ecology, and clinical medicine, have entered the top 1% of the ESI ranking of international high-level disciplines. Among them, engineering, materials science and chemistry have entered the top 1‰ of the global ESI ranking, becoming influential international top disciplines. The number of selected disciplines is tied for seventh place among all universities in China and first in South China.

The school has good educational conditions, excellent teaching environment, rigorous scholarship, and adheres to the goal of cultivating top-notch innovative talents with high quality, "three-creation (innovation, creation, entrepreneurship)" and an international perspective. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 380,000 students of all kinds for higher education for the country. A large number of its alumni have become the backbone of China's science and technology, famous entrepreneurs and leading cadres. The school is known as the cradle of engineers, the cradle of entrepreneurs and the base for cultivating top-notch innovative talents. In 2017, it was selected as a national "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" demonstration base. The school adheres to an open and dynamic approach, and international exchanges are very active. It has established long-term cooperative relations with more than 100 foreign universities and research institutions, and has jointly built three Confucius Institutes with Lancaster University in the UK, the University of Idaho in the US, Audi Group in Germany, Ingolstadt City Government, and Ingolstadt University of Technology. There are more than 2,400 international students from nearly 130 countries and regions studying at the university. The school offers undergraduate programs in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and master's programs in Journalism and Communication (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and Communication) for international students, as well as courses such as Chinese Language, Chinese culture, and short summer camps. In July 2013, it was selected as one of the first batch of "demonstration Bases for International Students in China" by the Ministry of Education; In 2014, it became the "China-Asean Engineering Education and Training Center" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; In 2015, it was approved as an international innovation platform for humanities and social sciences in Guangdong Province - "Research Base for Public Diplomacy and Cross-Cultural Communication"; In 2016, it became one of the first universities to pass the quality certification for international students in China.
