Beijing Film Academy

Beijing Film Academy is Asia 's largest and the world' s most famous film school. It is an art college under the Beijing municipal government and supported by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the Ministry of Education. It is known as "the cradle of Chinese film talents". In the 2011 and 2012 rankings of the 25 best film schools in the world by The Hollywood Reporter magazine, our school ranked third in the world for two consecutive years.

Size of School

Beijing Film Academy covers an area of 105 mu. There are nearly 3,000 full-time degree students on campus, and about 3,000 adult education undergraduate and junior college students, international students, part-time postgraduate students and postgraduate courses, advanced students and trainees. The school is building a new campus covering 667 mu, which is planned to accommodate 6,000 full-time students.

School Features

Through the continuous efforts of several generations, the school has developed a multi-level and multi-form film professional talent cultivation system with undergraduate teaching as the main body, including junior college, undergraduate, master's, doctoral, continuing education, and international student education. In June 2007, the school passed the evaluation of undergraduate teaching work organized by the Ministry of Education with an "excellent" grade.

Talent team

Beijing Film Academy has 527 staff members, including 287 full-time teachers, 59 professors and 120 associate professors. 21 doctoral supervisors and 158 master's supervisors; 26 experts enjoying special government allowances. Most of the teachers are experts, scholars, subject leaders, outstanding young and middle-aged teachers or film artists in the field of film education at home and abroad, and have won many awards for film and television creation at home and abroad.

Discipline and professional Settings

Beijing Film Academy has three first-level disciplines: Drama and Film Studies, Fine Arts, and Art Theory. It has five departments, namely Literature, Directing, Photography, Film studies and Film Technology, 11 colleges, including the School of Performance, the School of Sound, the School of Fine Arts, the School of Animation, the School of Management, the School of Photography, the School of International Exchange, the School of Digital Media, the School of Audio-Visual Media, the School of Higher Vocational Education and the School of Continuing Education, and 19 teaching implementation units, including the Graduate School, the Basic Department and the Training Center. Covering every role and all aspects of film creation, it is the only institution capable of independently creating feature films. The comprehensive strength of film studies leads the country and ranks among the top in the world.

Hardware facilities

The Digital Film Technology and Art Laboratory is a key laboratory in Beijing. The Recording Lab is the only one among national universities that has been certified by the international sound authority - Dolby Inc. The Sound Experiment Center is a Beijing Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and the Beijing Film Academy Social Practice Hengdian Film and Television Base is a Beijing off-campus talent training base. The average value of teaching and research equipment per student is over 280,000 yuan, which can well meet the needs of teaching, research and the artistic creation of teachers and students.

International exchanges

Our university is one of the nine most influential institutions of higher learning in Beijing for international student education and teaching, and has been awarded the title of Advanced Unit in Beijing for International Student Teaching Management many times.

Research and innovation strength

Beijing Film Academy Youth Film Studio is both an organizing and guiding unit for students' film creation practice and a production unit for teachers' artistic innovation practice. According to incomplete statistics, the film works created or co-created by it have won a total of 77 domestic and international film awards. Of the more than 10,000 films produced in New China, about 70 percent were created by our school's teachers, students and alumni. Teachers and graduates of the school have won over a hundred major national awards, including the Golden Rooster Award, the Hundred Flowers Award, the Government Huabiao Award, and the National Five-One Project Award. Teachers and graduates have won numerous awards at major international film festivals including the Oscars, Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Tokyo.
