Beihang University, founded in 1952, is the first higher education institution of aerospace in New China. The university is divided into three campuses: Xueyuan Road Campus, Shahe Campus and Doudian Campus. It covers more than 3,000 mu and has a total construction area of over 1.7 million square meters. Since its establishment, Beihang University has been a key national university. It was among the first to enter the "211 Project", entered the "985 Project" in 2001, and was included in the list of national "Double First-Class" universities in 2017. In December 2016, the university set its long-term goal of becoming a world-class university rooted in China.

The university's disciplines are flourishing and distinctive. There are 10 disciplines in engineering, science, management, literature, law, economics, philosophy, education, medicine and art. There are 8 first-level national key disciplines (tied for 7th place among all universities in the country), 28 second-level national key disciplines, and 13 disciplines ranked among the top 10 in the country, with aerospace science and technology and instrument science and technology ranking first. There are 55 undergraduate programs, 22 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 39 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 20 postdoctoral research stations. The school highlights the fundamental position of disciplines and builds a first-class discipline system that integrates aerospace, information, science, engineering and liberal arts, and combines medicine and engineering. It has obvious comparative advantages in disciplines such as aviation, aerospace, power, information, materials, instruments, manufacturing and management, and has formed two major discipline clusters of aerospace and information technology in the 2017 "Shanghairanking Global Subject Rankings", The discipline of aerospace engineering is ranked second in the world and first in China.

The school is home to many outstanding scholars and talented people. The school now has a total staff of 3,907, including 2,147 full-time teachers. The school is dedicated to nurturing talents and fostering virtue. There are more than 30,000 full-time students, with a 1:1 ratio of undergraduates to postgraduates, and nearly 1,300 international students pursuing degrees. At present, the international student program at Beihang includes various degree and non-degree study abroad programs such as undergraduate (taught in Chinese and English), master's, doctoral, Chinese language students, professional students (including exchange students), preparatory students, as well as special programs such as the space technology application graduate program. Among them, the undergraduate program taught in Chinese offers more than 30 undergraduate programs in four major categories, including science and engineering, economics and management, liberal arts and law, and art, with more than 60 specialized directions. The English-taught undergraduate program offers five fully English-taught undergraduate programs, namely Electronic information engineering, mechanical engineering, aircraft design and engineering, civil engineering, and International Economics and Trade. The graduate program offers master's and doctoral programs taught entirely in English in a wide range of disciplines including science, engineering, economics, management, literature and law. Among them, master's programs cover 25 first-level disciplines and 56 second-level disciplines, while doctoral programs cover 19 first-level disciplines and 44 second-level disciplines.

Beihang University was the first in the country to have all its postgraduate courses taught in English. There are 284 courses taught in English, seven of which have been approved as "brand courses Taught in English for International Students" by the Ministry of Education, and nine English textbooks have been officially published.

Beihang has been approved to establish the "Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Education and Training Center" and the "Beidou International Exchange and Training Center". The secondary discipline of "Space Technology Application" has been approved, and a total of 10 cohorts of 259 doctoral and master's students have been recruited. The United Nations Affiliated Space Science and Technology Education Asia Pacific Regional Centre (China) was established at Beihang University in 2014 (the sixth in the world and the only in China). As an education and training entity supported by the United Nations Committee for Outer Space Affairs, the centre aims to conduct capacity-building, information exchange, education and training, etc. In areas such as remote sensing and geographic information systems, satellite communications, global navigation satellite systems, small satellite technology, space law and policy, contribute to the implementation of the UN Committee for Outer Space's "Space Applications Programme", and contribute to the improvement of space science and technology education and training and space technology application capabilities in member states of the Centre.

Beihang University has established a Confucius Institute in collaboration with Japan Institute of Technology, has been approved to set up HSK and HSKK test centers, and offers a wide range of Chinese language training programs, cultural study programs and preparatory education programs for international students of different levels.

Beihang has a diverse, multi-channel, influential and well-known scholarship system for international students, including the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Confucius Institute Scholarship, the Beijing Scholarship for Foreign Students, the Beihang University Scholarship for Foreign Students, and scholarships funded by enterprises.
