Founded in 1958 as Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology is a high-level university established by the People's Republic of China to "cultivate advanced chemical technology talents needed for the development of cutting-edge science". As a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education, a key university under the "211 Project" and the "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform", and a university under the "Double First-Class" initiative, Beijing University of Chemical Technology shoulders the mission of cultivating high-level innovative talents, conducting fundamental and forward-looking scientific research, and developing original high-tech.
After 68 years of development, the university has formed its motto of "Great Virtue and Broad Learning, Chemical Education and Natural Engineering" and its spirit of "Unity and Dedication, Hard Work, Practical Action, Broad Learning and Innovation". At present, the university has developed into a multi-disciplinary key university with a solid foundation in science, strong strength in engineering, and distinctive features in management, economics, law, literature, education, philosophy, medicine and other disciplines, forming a multi-level talent cultivation pattern including undergraduate education, postgraduate education, international student education and continuing education. There are 18 colleges (departments), more than 16,000 full-time undergraduate students, 10,400 postgraduate students (including more than 2,000 doctoral students), more than 2,700 continuing education students through correspondence and evening classes, and nearly 400 degree international students. There are more than 2,700 faculty members, including 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 5 international academicians.
The school's academic strength has steadily increased. "Chemical Engineering and Technology" has been included in the national "Double First-Class" construction discipline and has achieved A significant breakthrough in the fifth round of national discipline evaluation as an A-class discipline. Chemistry, Materials science and Engineering are in the top 1‰ of ESI rankings, and 10 disciplines including chemistry, materials science, engineering, biology and biochemistry, ecology/environment, computer science, agricultural science, Earth science, physics, pharmacology and toxicology are in the top 1‰.
Beijing University of Chemical Technology has established partnerships with over 170 foreign institutions worldwide and offers a wide range of educational programs for international students, including bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs in both Chinese and English, Chinese language and culture courses, and summer science camps.
