Beijing Language and Culture University

Beijing Language and Culture University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the People 's republic of China. It is the only international university founded in the People' s Republic of China named after "language" and whose main mission is to disseminate Chinese language and culture. It is known as the "little United Nations". Since its establishment, Beijing Language and Culture University has developed into a world-renowned university with strengths in Chinese language and literature, regional and country studies, Sinology and Chinese studies, language science, foreign languages and literature, and international Chinese language education as its characteristic, with coordinated development of 11 disciplines.

As the pioneer, founder and leader of the discipline of international Chinese language education, the university gave birth to China's first undergraduate program in Chinese language for international students, the first undergraduate and postgraduate programs in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the first doctoral program in linguistics and applied linguistics for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and the first college of Teacher Education dedicated to training teachers for international Chinese language education.

Beijing Language and Culture University is an important window for Chinese language education and people-to-people exchanges between China and foreign countries. Since August 2023, international dignitaries such as the Prime Minister of Georgia, the Speaker of the Republic of Tajikistan, the President of Kazakhstan, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the President of Ecuador, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Foreign Minister of France, the Minister of the Privy Council of the Kingdom of Thailand, and ambassadors from more than 20 countries including Russia, Japan and France have visited successively. The school's influence in the international community has been enhanced, and it has contributed to the country's "Track II diplomacy". The university was the first of its kind to have branches abroad and currently has Bangkok College in Thailand, a branch in Tokyo, Japan, a branch in Kazakhstan, and a teaching center at Princess Norah University in Saudi Arabia. The university has established cooperative and exchange relations with 527 universities and educational institutions in 81 countries and regions around the world, forming a comprehensive, multi-field, in-depth and fruitful pattern of open education. Each year, more than 9,000 international students from over 140 countries (regions) come to study at the school, nearly 100 foreign teachers teach at the school, and more than 1,500 foreign guests are received. Under the initiative of "One Campus, Two sites" of Beijing Language and Culture University, in accordance with the overall arrangements of the university, some Chinese Government Scholarship freshmen will study at the Hainan campus of Beijing Language and Culture University. After completing half of the courses, they will return to the Beijing campus to complete the second half of the courses. Under this study arrangement, students can not only gain an in-depth understanding of the development history of Hainan Free Trade Island and experience the unique customs of the integration of various ethnic groups firsthand, but also enter the historical ancient city of the capital to perceive the historical changes and vigorous development of the Chinese nation, and feel the three-dimensional, real and modern China in all aspects and from multiple perspectives.
