Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences

The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences established its graduate school in 1979 and was among the first institutions in China to confer doctoral and master's degrees. Relying on 34 research institutes distributed across 17 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions), the Graduate School adheres to the educational philosophy of "focusing on research, quality first, science and education for agriculture", and gives full play to the characteristic advantages of "combining research institutes, two-stage training". After more than 40 years of exploration and development, It has formed a multi-level and multi-type talent cultivation system including full-time master's, full-time doctoral, part-time master's, postdoctoral, international students in China, Sino-foreign cooperative education, postgraduate students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and continuing education.

The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a central-level agricultural research institution established by the state. It is the highest academic institution for comprehensive agricultural research in China and is responsible for major basic and applied basic research, applied research and high-tech research in China's agriculture. The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has established a three-level discipline system based on 11 major discipline clusters, including basic frontiers, crops, horticulture, plant protection, resources and environment, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, agricultural microbiology, quality and processing of agricultural products, agricultural equipment engineering and information, agricultural economics and rural development, 58 subject areas and 283 research directions. It has world-class national research facilities and innovation platforms, including the world 's largest single facility of biosafety level 4 laboratory for large animals, Asia' s largest cluster of biosafety level 3 laboratories for large animals, the world 's largest single and most native resource national crop germplasm bank, as well as two national major science and technology infrastructure facilities and 18 national key laboratories, etc. It provides strong scientific and technological support and educational resources for postgraduate education at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

The current discipline covers four major categories: agriculture, science, engineering, and management. It has 12 first-level doctoral discipline authorizations in biology, ecology, agricultural engineering, food science and engineering, crop science, horticulture, agricultural resources and environment, plant protection, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, grassland science, and agroforestry economics and management, as well as 16 first-level master's discipline authorizations. It has 50 doctoral degree authorization points, 54 master's degree authorization points and 5 interdisciplinary programs. There are 16 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 2,811 supervisors, including 1,040 doctoral supervisors. The total number of graduate students is now over 7,500. A total of more than 22,000 doctoral and master's degrees have been awarded, and a large number of high-level agricultural science and technology talents have been cultivated for China's agricultural development and economic construction.

The Graduate School enrolls students in the autumn and offers various scholarships, including the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students, the Graduate School Scholarship of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Women's Science Organization for Developing Countries Scholarship. The duration of study for doctoral and master's programs is usually three years. Most programs are taught in English or in both Chinese and English. At present, there are 323 international students in the graduate school, more than 85 percent of whom are doctoral students. The students come from 47 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, America and Oceania. A total of 905 international students have graduated, including 750 doctoral students and 115 master's students. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the graduate School has established doctoral education programs in collaboration with the University of Liege in Belgium and Wageningen University in the Netherlands, and has established cooperative relations with more than 90 universities and research institutions abroad. The level of international cooperation and exchange has been continuously enhanced.
