Northwestern Polytechnical University

Northwestern Polytechnical University (hereinafter referred to as Northwestern Polytechnical University) is located in Xi 'an, Shaanxi Province. It is the only multi-disciplinary, research-oriented, Open University in China that is characterized by the simultaneous development of aviation, aerospace, and Marine engineering education and scientific research. It is now affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Northwestern Polytechnical University has been a key university under national construction. In 1960, it was designated as a national key university by The State Council. During the Seventh Five-Year Plan and the Eighth Five-Year Plan, it was listed as one of the 15 universities under national key construction by The State Council. It was also one of the first 22 universities to establish a graduate school. In 1995, it was among the first to enter the "211 Project". In 2001, it was included in the Project 985, and in 2017, it was included in the national First-Class University construction (Class A), and it is a member of the Alliance of Outstanding Universities. The school adheres to the motto of "Public, Honest, Courageous and Resolute", promotes the school spirit of "Three Practicals and One New" (solid foundation, Diligent work, simple style, pioneering and innovative), is rooted in the west and dedicated to national defense, has written many "firsts" in the history of New China, and continues to write new glories in the creation of first-class universities and first-class disciplines today.

The university adheres to the principle of both recruitment and training, and strives to build a talent highland. The university has 26 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including those hired from outside), 21 recipients of the "Thousand Talents Program", 30 Changjiang Scholars, 12 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 7 chief scientists of the 973 Program, 2 experts with outstanding contributions at the National level, and 4 recipients of the National Teaching Master Award. There are currently 2 innovative research groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 7 national teaching teams, 7 innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, and 8 national defense innovation teams.

The university has strong research capabilities and makes significant contributions to science and technology. It has 8 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering research centers, 3 national international science and technology cooperation bases, 1 national defense science and technology innovation center, 3 national and local joint innovation platforms, and 66 provincial and ministerial key laboratories and engineering centers. Among the 16 major national science and technology projects, the university has focused on participating in the argumentation and scientific research of 10 major projects including large aircraft, manned spaceflight and lunar exploration, and has been deeply involved in the argumentation of the two aircraft projects and in the development of the Shenzhou series of spacecraft. It has the only State Key Laboratory of Special Technology for unmanned aircraft and the National Engineering Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems in China. Over the past decade, 35 national science and technology awards have been received, including 4 second prizes of the National Natural Science Award, 1 first prize and 12 second prizes of the National Invention Award, and 5 first prizes and 13 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

The university has accelerated the transformation of achievements and promoted military-civilian integration. While encouraging in-depth research and a focus on teaching and nurturing students, the integration of industry, academia and research has been promoted, and platforms have been jointly built with military industrial groups, and win-win cooperation has been achieved with military factories in Shaanxi. Build Northwestern Polytechnical University Military-Civilian Integration Innovation Demonstration Park with Xi 'an High-tech Zone, build Shaanxi Aerospace Power Research Institute with Shaanxi Science and Technology Department, build Shaanxi Network Innovation Research Institute with Shaanxi Cyberspace Administration Office, and build "Four Subjects and one joint" research and development platform with Shaanxi Energy Group Co., LTD. Companies such as Xinyao and Polytech, which were established by school teachers with intellectual property rights, have become the backbone of local economic transformation and upgrading and the source of innovation for regional economic development in fields such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), ceramic composites, high-performance new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, general aircraft, and intelligent underwater vehicles. The effective and fruitful "Northwestern Polytechnical University model" for the transformation and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements and the "Northwestern Polytechnical University path" for military-civilian integration have gradually taken shape.

The university is inclusive and open to the public. It has created the "International Class", a local education model that integrates undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education for international students, where Chinese and foreign students study in the same classroom, take the same test papers, conduct research in the same room and participate in the same activities. We have established close partnerships with 149 overseas universities. In 2016, the School of Engineering at Northwestern Polytechnical University and Queen Mary University of London was officially approved by the Ministry of Education to become the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution in the northwest region of China. The university served as the chair of the China-Russia Engineering University Alliance for the 2016-2017 academic year and as the chair of the China-Asean Engineering University Alliance for 2016.
