Shanghai University of Finance and Economics originated from the business school established by Nanjing Higher Normal School in 1917. After 100 years of development, it has become a multi-disciplinary key university with economics and management as its main disciplines and coordinated development of economics, management, law, literature and science. It is a university directly under the Ministry of Education under the "211 Project" and the "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" construction. It is jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. In September 2017, the university was included in the list of universities for the construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines.
The school is committed to open education and has been deeply implementing the Global SUFE strategy. Currently, it has established partnerships with 212 universities and institutions in 46 countries and regions. It is one of the earliest institutions in the country to admit international students, with its history dating back to the first two students in 1957. In the course of its development, international student education has relied on the school's professional characteristics and strengths, adhering to the concept of "international alignment, Chinese characteristics, University of Finance brand, and integrated development", and has established a complete and well-structured international student degree education system and a Chinese language teaching system with business Chinese as its characteristic. Through the gradual establishment and development of the School of International Cultural Exchange, the National Base for Teaching and Resource Development of International Business Chinese (Shanghai), and the Confucius Institute, the school has formed a virtuous cycle system and sustainable development pattern of symbiotic promotion of international student talent cultivation, discipline development, faculty construction and international exchange.
