Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Founded in 1958 as Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it was officially renamed Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2006. In 1992, with the approval of the State Education Commission, it added the name of International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the chair unit of the Teaching Steering Committee of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Medical Humanities Quality of the Ministry of Education and the chair unit of the Education Steering Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. In 2017, the university was included in the list of national "Double First-Class" universities, and the discipline of traditional Chinese medicine was included in the national "Double First-Class" construction discipline. The new campus under construction is located on the shore of Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai District, Tianjin. It covers an area of more than 2,600 mu and has a construction area of more than 600,000 square meters. It will be built into the largest museum and botanical garden of traditional Chinese medicine in the country. The university has established a multi-level education system with undergraduate education as the main body, including doctoral and master's education, international education and postdoctoral research stations. There are 26 undergraduate programs in six disciplines, namely medicine, science, literature, management, engineering and education. It has three first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points in traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese Materia medica, and integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine, 22 second-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, seven first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 42 second-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and three postdoctoral research stations in traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese Materia medica, and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The university has 14 colleges, 2 faculties, 2 research institutes, 3 directly affiliated hospitals and 4 non-directly affiliated hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital is a national clinical research base for Traditional Chinese medicine, a national clinical research center for acupuncture, and a national clinical base for acupuncture; The Second Hospital is a center for the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complicated diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. There are 12,621 full-time students, including 8,289 undergraduates, 3,440 postgraduates and doctoral students, and 892 international students and students with degrees from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese.

There are more than 3,600 faculty members, with a strong teaching force, including 1,000 with senior professional titles. It has been approved as a demonstration base for the cultivation of innovative talents by the Ministry of Science and Technology. There are three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two masters of traditional Chinese medicine, and a number of high-level talents such as Chang Jiang Scholars, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, New Century "Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Project", New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, and Special Contribution Experts of the Ministry of Health. In recent years, two innovation teams in key areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology's Innovation Talent Promotion Program have been approved, and three innovation teams of the Ministry of Education have been approved by the university. The school has maintained a leading position in the construction of key disciplines and laboratories among traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities across the country. It has 2 national key disciplines, 28 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 2 national key laboratories, 22 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, and 2 provincial and ministerial engineering centers. It has established the China-Italy Joint Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly built by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Ministry of Health of Italy, the State Key Laboratory of Modern Chinese Medicine (Cultivation), the Modern Chinese Medicine Research and Development Center of the International Biomedical Research Institute, the Key Laboratory of Formulaology of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of Modern Chinese Medicine Discovery and Formulation Technology of the Ministry of Education, and the Tianjin Engineering Research Center of Component Chinese Medicine Technology.
