Dali University is located in Dali, a famous historical and cultural city in China. It is the earliest established university in Yunnan Province that has the authority to confer master's degrees and the only provincial-level project to confer new doctoral degrees. After 40 years of undergraduate education, it has developed into a comprehensive university with strengths in medicine, pharmacy, education and biology, and features in ethnology and art, with interdisciplinary integration and multi-level coordinated development.
The university has made full use of its geographical advantages and blazed a distinctive path of internationalized education for local universities located in non-provincial capital cities. It has established educational, teaching, exchange and cooperation relations with 44 foreign universities in 19 countries and regions, launched its first Chinese language major in Cambodia, set up Chinese language internship bases in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, and is among the first batch of "going global" pilot universities and international application-oriented talent training bases in Yunnan Province. It has been approved as the Chinese host institution of the Confucius Institute on the Maritime Silk Road in Thailand, a qualified institution for the Global Confucius Institute Scholarship, and a test site for the International Chinese Language Teacher Qualification Certificate. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Education, the number of full-time undergraduate international students ranks 10th among all universities in China and 1st among universities in western China. In the 2018 ranking of "Best Universities in China" released by Shanghairanking Consultancy, Dali University ranked 16th in the country in terms of student internationalization, with 6.97 percent of international students.
