Kunming Medical University

Kunming Medical University is a provincial key university. Its predecessor was the Medical Specialized Department of Donglu University, which was established in 1933. It became an independent college in 1956. In 1981, it became one of the first institutions to confer master 's degrees in China. In 1998, it became a doctoral degree institution. In 2010, Yunnan Medical College was merged into it. In 2012, it was renamed Kunming Medical University. Kunming Medical University was among the first batch of institutions to participate in the Basic Capacity Building Project for Higher Education Institutions in Central and Western China. Over the past 86 years, more than 100,000 full-time and more than 90,000 part-time senior medical and health workers have taken root in the border areas and served at the grassroots level, making outstanding contributions to the medical and health cause, economic and social development, ethnic unity and progress, and border prosperity and stability in Yunnan.

The school has three campuses: Chenggong (the main campus), Renmin West Road and Pingzheng, covering an area of 1,482 mu. There are 6,222 staff members (1,586 at the main campus and 4,636 at the affiliated hospital) and 18,333 full-time students, including 13,806 undergraduates, 2,974 postgraduates, 240 doctoral students, 522 international students and 791 junior college students. There are 24,189 adult undergraduate and junior college students. After years of development, a complete medical talent training system has been formed, including full-time higher medical education (bachelor's, master's, doctoral), post-graduation education, continuing medical education, and international student education.

The school has 18 colleges (departments), 32 undergraduate programs, 4 national characteristic programs, 1 national excellent course, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national excellent resource sharing course, and 6 provincial teaching teams. There are 3 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 7 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 5 second-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point, and 6 master's professional degree authorization points. 1 Postdoctoral research station in clinical medicine. Clinical medicine has entered the top 1% of the global ESI subject rankings.

The university has received seven national-level science and technology awards and 17 ministerial-level science and technology awards. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, it has won five special prizes and 11 first prizes of provincial science and technology awards. It undertook 541 national-level research projects, ranking third in the province, with an annual research budget of over 100 million yuan; There is one Ministry of Education innovation team and 25 provincial innovation teams; There is one Ministry of Education International Cooperation Joint laboratory, two national accredited and recognized laboratories (centers), and 59 provincial key laboratories, technology research centers, bases, etc. Journal of Kunming Medical University is a national core journal of science and technology.

The university has established a complete practical teaching network consisting of 4 directly affiliated hospitals, 12 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 11 teaching hospitals, 43 internship hospitals, 19 community practical teaching bases and 41 relevant professional practical teaching bases, fully meeting the practical teaching needs of students. The first and second affiliated hospitals are "Grade A Tertiary" general hospitals, and the third affiliated hospital and the affiliated stomatological Hospital are the highest-level "Grade A tertiary" specialized hospitals for oncology and stomatology in Yunnan Province.

The university has established exchange and cooperation relations with more than 80 universities and research institutions in 26 countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions. It is the "International Medical Talent Training Base" of Yunnan Province and one of the first universities to recruit international students on national government scholarships. It is also the university approved by the Ministry of Education to offer undergraduate clinical medicine (taught in English) to international students.
