Zhejiang Gongshang University is located in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang province with beautiful scenery. Its predecessor was Hangzhou Middle Commercial School, which was founded in 1911. Since its establishment, it has been a pioneer of commercial education in our province and one of the earliest specialized commercial schools established in China. In 1980, Hangzhou College of Commerce was established with the approval of The State Council, and in 2004 it was renamed Zhejiang Gongshang University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. For more than a hundred years, the school has adhered to the tradition of business education. Especially since 1998, when it was transformed from a Ministry of Commerce directly affiliated institution to "co-built by the central and local governments with local management as the main body", the school has adhered to the path of characteristic education, with economics and management as the main disciplines, and coordinated development of law, engineering and other disciplines, and the level of education has been continuously improved. In 2015, the school was designated as a university jointly built by the Zhejiang Provincial Government, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Education. In 2017, the university was designated as a key construction university in Zhejiang Province, and the disciplines of statistics and business administration were included in the list of provincial advantageous and characteristic disciplines.
The university has nine disciplines including management, economics, engineering, literature, law, science, history, philosophy and art. It has the authority to confer doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees, master's professional degrees, and the right to recruit international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. There are more than 27,600 full-time students, including over 22,800 undergraduates, over 3,800 postgraduates and nearly 1,800 international students.

The university has 6 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 47 second-level discipline doctoral programs, 16 first-level discipline master's programs, 92 second-level discipline master's programs, 13 master's professional degree categories (covering 25 enrollment fields), and 3 postdoctoral research stations.
The school has more than 2,310 staff members, including more than 1,810 full-time teachers, 89 doctoral supervisors, more than 300 senior professionals, more than 700 associate senior professionals, and more than 810 doctors.
