The school has one first-level discipline (Foreign Languages and Literatures) authorized for academic doctoral degrees, covering 13 second-level discipline doctoral programs; It has three first-level disciplines (Foreign Languages and Literatures, Chinese Language and Literature, Marxist Theory) and 31 second-level disciplines authorized for academic master's degrees; It has four professional master's degree categories (Translation, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, International Business, journalism and communication), covering 21 professional master's degree fields. Each academic master's degree authorization point, in addition to granting full-time master's degrees, also has the authority to confer master's degrees equivalent to academic qualifications.

The school adheres to the "people-oriented, talent-strong school" strategy, focuses on the three important links of training, introduction and utilization, and fully implements the construction project of the teaching staff. The school has more than 1,100 staff members and over 680 teachers. Among them, professors and associate professors account for about 42% of the total teaching staff, teachers with doctoral degrees account for about 23% of the total teaching staff, teachers with master's degrees or above account for 81% of the total teaching staff, and more than 80 experts have received various honors or titles at or above the provincial and ministerial level. The school is well-equipped with advanced teaching facilities, including the most complete foreign language teaching multimedia classrooms, language laboratories, simultaneous interpretation laboratories and translation laboratories in Southwest China. The school library houses over 1.6 million volumes of original foreign language and literature books and language reference books, as well as nearly 3,000 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals.

The school has established intercollegiate exchange relations with more than 80 universities across five continents and has extensive cooperation and exchanges with foreign institutions in teacher training and undergraduate and postgraduate education. The university is the only full member of the Association of French-Language Universities (AUF) in China. The university collaborates with foreign governments and educational institutions to establish foreign educational and cultural exchange institutions such as the Alliance Francaise, the Goethe-Institut Language Center, the Russian Language Center, the Cervantes Institute Language Center, and the Chinese office of the University of Toulouse Consortium. Confucius Institutes are jointly established with Lome University Togo in Africa, Nizhny Novgorod Linguistic University in Russia and the University of West Florida in the United States. In collaboration with the University of Newcastle in Australia, a dual diploma programme (Business English) was established.
